Denmark

Copenhagen
Sept 4-6th 2008
Nyhavn, Copenhagen's famous harbor.

Day 1

Copenhagen was our first stop on the Victoria and Ashley Scandinavia trip! We caught a flight from Stuttgart and arrived in Copenhagen at 1:30pm. We got off the plane and found the metro. We bought tickets and then took the next train toward our hostel. We got off at Forum station and followed the directions to our hostel. We got a little lost but people were willing to help us!! We were staying at “Sleep in Heaven” hostel, located outside the city centre. We had to pay in cash, so we had to go and get money out. We decided since we were already out, that we would just see as much as we could. We walked across the river to the main shopping district. We saw the National Museum and Christianebory. We sat in the castle’s court yard for a while then headed back to our hostel. We got money out and ate dinner at The Taco Shop. It was pretty good, but not quite as good as we hoped it would be. We walked back to the hostel, relaxed, read and then did a crossword before going to bed.

Day 2
We didn’t set an alarm because we had no specific plans. We woke up at 8:30am, got dressed and headed out in search of breakfast. We were walking toward the Tivoli centre as we thought it would be a good starting point. On the way we stopped and got bagels. It was like being in the states again; there are no bagels in Germany! We crossed Gyldenloves Bridge, passed the train station, and the town hall before coming to Tivoli. Tivoli is a large outdoor amusement park. It was closed when we got there and expensive so we didn’t really feel like waiting to go inside. Instead, we kept on walking past the Danish Design Center and NY Carlesberg Museum. After taking a quick rest we walked around the Orsteds Park. We sat on a bench and relaxed before going to the Botanical Gardens. I thought the first garden was prettier than the Botanical, so we didn’t stay as long there. Our next stop was the Royal Gardens and Rosenborg, the Royal summer house. The Royal Garden was impressive. We played cards there for a while and talked. We walk further through the city coming to Marble Church which was right in front of Amalienborg. We explored the church for a while then moved onto the castle. We walked through the castle to Amalie Haven Gardens and came out on Larsens plads which was on the water. On the other side, across the water, was a massive building, the Opera house. We walked along the water toward Kastellet, passing frined museum, St. Alban’s church, Gefion Fountain, and finally coming to the statue of the little Mermaid. We sang some songs from the movie for a while before heading toward Nyhaven harbor. After the harbor visit, we walked toward the hostel in search of food and pasted the Royal theater and Kongens statue on the way. We settled on McDonalds for our late lunch. We went back to the hostel, played mad libs, did a crossword, went online and decided it was time for dinner. We walked a ways before we settled on Pizza. After we ate, we went to see if there were any good movies playing. We made it just in time to see Wall-E, which was very cute! We walked home after the movies and went to bed.

Day 3
We woke up at 6:50am, got dressed and then checked out. It was raining which was a bummer because we had to walk to the metro station. It was early and nothing was open, so we had to wait to get breakfast. We got to the airport without any trouble. We checked in and went through security. We got something to eat and then exchanged out money. The flight was relatively on time and we were headed for Norway.

Denmark was a 3.5. Very pretty, and I'm not just talking abut the city. The people are all young and very attractive, both men and women!
